Missing Text In Drobo Dashboard For Mac

I bought a DroboFS a week ago that I've been running trouble free since on my iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.4 using a NetGear Gigabit switch and a static IP (192.168.0.24) I gave the box. But this weekend, after a restart of the Drobo, I'm no longer able to mount the shared volume. As Drobo customer support doesn't seem to care (haven't heard a peep since registering the box, nor any help/mail after my inquiry for support), I'm turning to the Networking Matrix to help me get it working again. On receiving my DroboFS, I immediately installed 5 2GB WD drives and configured it to simple drive failure protection (I also made sure to install the latest firmware and Drobo Dashboard software). This gives me about 7.5 GB of net data space that I filled to a bit more than half its capacity during last week.

Speeds were never great (12 MB/s) and deleting files was slow and sometimes troublesome (deleting a Mac app especially took sometimes several tries as it complained files were in use; this also happens sometimes on my Synology DS 209 and WD MyBook World NAS), but I was Ok with that. During the last week, I restarted the DroboFS and my iMac several times (for example to enable Drobo apps), and it never posed a problem. But since 2 days, everytime I try to mount the network share, I get a 'system resource is in use' error.

I guess by the lack of any response that I've exhausted all options. As a last resort, I booted my Mac into Windows to try to connect to the DroboFS, but I'm getting the exact same problem ('system resource is in use').

I've lost all hope in Drobo (doesn't help that after a whole week customer support still has not replied to me) and will return the machine. Here's a resume of the NASs that I tried in the last couple of years with their pro's and con's: - WD MyBook World Edition: very quiet, but also very slow - Synology: fast, lots of functions with regular software updates, but noisy - Drobo: scalable storage volume, automatic data protection, but stops working after a week, non-existent customer support (although I can't vouch for the two other firms as I've never needed their CS) I will now try to use my Mac mini as a server. Hopefully it's not to late to help, but I've been struggling with the same issue and have come up with a solution/workaround. My environment is Windows-based, but maybe this will at least point you in the right direction. Background: I have a Drobo-FS with two shares, one public and one restricted to specific users.

Dashboard

When rebooting a machine that should have access to both shares, often only the public share would mount correctly. The other share would fail to mount automatically and would not mount manually via the Drobo Dashboard software (giving a 'system resource in use' error).

To fix: First, wait until the Drobo Dashboard has connected to the Drobo-FS before attempting to access the shares. Annoyingly, the software takes about 30 seconds after booting to connect.

In my small network, computer A with access to both shares would correctly mount both shares after Drobo Dashboard connected. If I attempted to access the drives beforehand, only the protected/restricted share would not mount correctly. However, computer B, for whatever reason, would never mount the protected share correctly on startup (it mounted the public share without issue every time; obviously because there is no authentication via the Dashboard required for the public share).

Drobo Dashboard Update

Potential solution: Right-click the protected share that did not mount correctly in My Computer and select Disconnect. Then, using Drobo Dashboard, attempt to mount it again. This worked on computer A only, for whatever random reason. Worked-every-time-for-me solution: Disconnect all (including any that mounted correctly) Drobo shares manually and then remount using Drobo Dashboard. A fast way to go about this is.

File System corruption can occur on PCs and Mac's/, on internal or external drives. File System Corruption can occur whether you are connected USB, Thunderbolt, ISCSI or Firewire. It is just not readable by your operating system. The alternative to running Disk Warrior is a 3rd party data recovery tool like, Windows:. Run CHKDSK. From the Windows Start Menu Run , in box type 'cmd.exe' in box type 'chkdsk p:/x' (replace 'p' with the drive letter your Drobo device uses in My Computer).
